Kawthaung is fragrant for hosting sea gypsies in the southern part of Myanmar. Yet, it is a bustling town next door to Thailand. Kawthaung, at the southernmost part of Myanmar to the Thailand border is a district is included in the 3 districts Dawei, Myeik & Kawthaung, of the Taninthayi division.
The sea along Taninthayi coast is dotted with nearly 800 islands are called Myeik archipelago and almost some half of these islands are located in the area of Kawthaung. Offshore fishing is an important business in Kawthaung and people here is busy to trade with Thailand for fishing, rubber & cashews. That is why, they are more interest for trade and there are also some places to visit around the city downtown for non-residents as Victoria point, King Bayinaung hill & monument, Pyidawaye & Aungdawmu Pagodas hills.
