Bhamo – Bhamo is a small town that lies on the eastern bank of the River Ayeyarwaddy. Its original name is Manmaw – a Shan name ("Man" means village & "Maw" means pot). So, Manmaw is a village that is famous for pottery. The surround villages are supporting this fact because there are lots of villages whose initial word is "Man". Bhamo is 803 miles away from the capital Yangon.
Houses are lie along the river stretching out for 4 miles. The city is not flat inside. It had been a trade centre with China since the town is only 53 miles away from the Chinese-Myanmar border.
Today Bhamo is believed to be founded in 17 century by the Shan. It ranked as the third largest city after Yangon and Ava during the time of Myanmar king. The town was ransacked by the Kachin just before the British arrival. Then it lost its importance and significance. Though British established Bhamo as a captial of a district, it never reached its former glory and importance.
Today, Bhamo is accessible both by water and air. You can cruise down the legendry River Ayeyarwaddy and enjoy the perfect beauty in the defile and along the river.
